SOLEDAD NANI

Soledad Nani is a queer tango teacher and dancer widely recognized in Buenos Aires and Europe. She is one of the important figures of queer tango in Argentina and she is part of the MFT Movimiento Feminista de Tango (which accompanied the #NiUnaMenos movement in Latin America). The MFT is at the origin of the denunciation of violence against women in the tango world and has drawn up an action protocol for situations of violence in Milongas. The movement also offers a tango with gender inclusiveness and a social approach. Soledad presents her experience to us and offers discussions around a round table. It will also dismantle the binary vision of tango in a queer and feminist approach to this dance.

THE GARDENIAS DUO

Noelia Jose, masterful singer and interpreter of the poetry of tango.
Estani Sanchez, bandoneon player, passionate about and invested in irresistibly danceable tango arrangements.

With our interpretation and our deep love of the tradition of tango, we will take you on a journey through the urban universe of Buenos Aires and the emotional landscapes that it evokes in us. We offer you a repertoire filled with forgotten gems from the ‘20s to the ‘50s, to embody them and make them resonate today.

TANGO QUEER LYON

In addition to offering tango classes that follow a queer and feminist ethos as well as balls, practice spaces, and events around queer tango culture, the Lyon Queer Tango Collective also organises workshops on consent for other social dance environments. Lyon Queer Tango is in a network with other tango organisations in Lyon, Marseille, Paris, Toulouse, and Lille, to do on-the-ground work on awareness-raising, diffusing information, and prevention; and to share action resources and communication tools about sexist and sexual violence in tango classes, balls, and events. The collective also offers spaces to share personal stories about these kinds of issues, to give advice, and to offer treatment and support.

Queer tango was born out of the need of the LGBTQIA+ community and other minorities to find spaces open to classes, balls, creativity, exchanges, and artistic expression. Queer tango does not take into account heteronormative roles. We take care to create “safe” spaces while trying to counter all oppressive endgames. In order to do this, we place an emphasis on learning and on changing roles (the leader and the follower in the dance). And we offer measures to ensure this space remains a gentle one that we can share, where each and every person is valid and belongs.

Tango is moving.
Tango is diversity.
